Mayor Sam Teresi has reappointed Harry Snellings to another four-year term as Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police. Snellings was first appointed to lead the department in July of 2013 to fill out the unexpired term of former Police Chief Rex Rater. Teresi reappointed Snellings in 2014 to a full four-year term. The Jamestown City Council unanimously confirmed the appointment all three times.
Snellings was hired by the Jamestown Police Department in May of 1996. He was promoted three times – Sergeant in October 2003, Acting Lieutenant in July 2007, and Lieutenant in January 2009. He has led the SWAT Team as Leader, Training Director, and Team Commander, as well as served as a Platoon commander in the Police Department. Snellings also Led the JPD effort for Police Agency Re-accreditation by the State of New York. He served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves for a total of 22 years.
Snellings’ current term expires December 31, 2021.
