First Bank

Located at 201 North Main Street

The first bank in Chautauqua County was chartered April 18, 1831, Judge Elial Todd Foote, the first President.

The original building was erected in 1831 upon the north side of the lot now occupied by the Marine Midland Bank. Built of brick, 18’ by 34’, it stood twelve feet from Main Street, facing the street. The present building, erected in 1924, is the fifth on this site. Banking business has been conducted here continuously since 1831.
