May 17, 2012Persell Middle School Students Raise $760 For New Trees

The Environmental Club at Persell Middle School presents the City of Jamestown with a $760 check on May 12 for the purchase and planting of new trees in the school neighborhood. The students raised the money through a "Pennies For Trees" competition. The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation matched the amount and the city spent some additional resources to plant more than a dozen red oak trees.

Persell Middle School students pitched in to help plant the red oak sapplings that border the school grounds.

Mayor Sam Teresi and Persell Middle School Principal Philip Cammarata talk to students about the importance of the tree-planting project.
