May 17, 20122011 Kidney Walk Held at JSB Arena

Mayor Sam Teresi proclaimed Sunday, June 12, 2011, as Kidney Disease Awareness Day in the City of Jamestown. The ceremony was part of the the Southern Tier Kidney Association second annual Kidney Challenge Walk at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena. The walk took place along Third Street to Logan Park and back to the arena.
All of the event proceeds will be utilized to benefit dialysis patients at WCA Hospital through the purchase of heated recliners. The volunteers of the Southern Tier Kidney Association have set a goal to raise $20,000.
The event featured live music, a post-walk cookout, bake sale and basket auction. Butterflies were also released in memory of or in honor of those who have been impacted by chronic kidney disease.
The goal of the annual Kidney Challenge Walk is to raise funds for the Southern Tier Kidney Association which supports those in this area who are affected by kidney disease, including current kidney patients and living donors. Funds are used to help pay for the financial concerns often associated with dialysis, a kidney donation and/or a kidney transplant.
